Stan Schroeder recently wrote a post on this subject for Mashable.  He gives you three options for getting rid of the Notifications you just don’t care about.  

Here’s one I checked into quickly when I read about it…

“Many applications actually have quite a lot of privileges. For example, some are able to “Access my data even when I’m not using the application,” “Send me emails” and “Publish recent activity to my wall”.”
